Hikaru Shida had no intention of retaining the AEW Women's Championship.
The title fight between AEW Women's Champion Toni Storm and challenger Hikaru Shida marked the 200th episode of Dynamite for AEW.
Storm had won the previous singles match between them. But this time, Shida triumphed to claim the victory and the title of AEW Women's Champion.
Shida's second stint as champion officially began with this victory. Of course, Shida's first administration began in May 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Shida successfully defended the AEW Women's Championship for more than a year till Britt Baker deposed her at AEW Double or Nothing in May 2021.
Shida acknowledged that she was shocked to find that she would be winning the championship once more in her interview with Denise Salcedo.
Shida is especially thrilled to repeat her role as champion in front of the AEW fans, something she was deprived of during her first reign, even though she didn't anticipate holding the title once more.
Of course, I've always wished to win the title once more, Shida admitted. "I had only been here [in the United States] for six months when I won the title for the first time.
